The Gilmour Bros.
Michigan born and raised, The Gilmour Bros. came from diverse musical backgrounds to form one of the leading proponents of Irish-American folk music in the midwest during the 1970’s and 80’s. They released three long-play albums on their own Michigan Archives label, two of which were studio produced, ‘Evry Pitchr Telles A Storye’ and ‘A Good Tune Is A Good Tune,’ and a third, ‘Live At Irish Fest,’ a live performance at Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, recorded by Wisconsin Public Radio. Originally based in Bridgeport, Michigan, they built a following Saginaw and Bay City.
In 1977, the boys moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, and for the next 10 years further established their reputation for ‘rollicking good music and fun.’ They were occasionally joined by brother David Gilmour, and partnered for a time with noted New Age artist Kim Robertson on Celtic harp and piano. Over the years, The Gilmour Bros. appeared on TV and radio, and at numerous clubs, pubs, college coffeehouses, and music festivals throughout the midwestern and eastern U.S. and Ontario, Canada. While they are no longer active on the road or in the studio, over the past few years they’ve established a tradition of coming together each fall for a reunion concert with family, friends, and special guests in Bridgeport, Michigan, where it all began.
